If you have been an employee for several years and are now entering the ranks of the self employed there are a few things that must be kept in mind as you make the switch.

First of all there are two different ways to be self employed.

1. Working alone

Working alone has the advantage of being answerable to No Body but carries with it the disadvantage of you being responsible for all the work that is done.

Working alone can often lead to 60 to 100 hour weeks, especially in the beginning. But once you have established a solid clientele that knows you, likes you and trusts your work, you will have more free time once you attain your necessary cash needs.

The limit that you will face working alone is that there are only 24 hours in a day and there is only one of you to do the work. From this there are two scenarios that follow.
a. If you're making a lot of money working alone, time to enjoy it is very limited.
b. If working alone provides you with plenty of time, your funds are very limited.

2. Working with a Team

Entering the ranks of the Self Employed with a team has a few more advantages to it. You are able to glean information and advice from those who have built your kind of business before and are able to help you understand what to do and how to do it. One point must be made as far as working with a team is concerned though. Many make the mistake of thinking that the success of the team automatically equates to their personal success.

From my experience, working fewer hours is not an immediate result because of combining a full time job along with starting your own business. Putting in 60 to 100 hours per week by combining both your full time employment along with yourself employment is quite common but it only lasts for a while. The fun part is as the money increases from your part time efforts and you learn to leverage those efforts by teaching what you have learned, your work becomes fun.
